Mob Mentality

Exodus 23:2-3 – Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment: Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.

Have you ever heard of “mob mentality”? It describes the peculiar affinity of human beings to get caught up in and go along with a particular influence on a largely emotional (rather than rational) basis. The basic idea is that in a heated moment, the voice of the mob drowns out one’s own rational judgment, and causes him/her to choose a course of action that is different than he/she would normally choose out of his/her own reasoning. Much evil can be born out of this phenomenon, and for this reason, controlling the economic, political and religious narratives of society is an extremely powerful weapon that the god of this world and his actors seek to exploit.

We live in a day in which there are countless pressures brought upon us from every side that seek to conform us to a worldly mold. We are constantly bombarded with the information that others want us to believe, and the narratives are framed by those in charge of the levers of power to influence us in thinking along a particular line. In all this, there is a continual stirring of the political pot as each side aims to weaponize selectively chosen events to prod the masses into a frenzy of unbridled outrage. The result of this polarizing dispensation of information is a populace on edge and the fabric of civil society begins to unravel as brother turns on brother. When this happens, truth is substituted for lies and the issue of supreme importance becomes not what is righteous and true, but that which is accommodating and protective of the tribal mentalities that dominate the philosophical view in question.

The goal of all this is to advance evil and to wrest judgment. It is a ploy of the policy of evil strategically implemented and designed to power the world system along its pre-charted course. By these methods, radical and abominable sin is rebranded, taken into the marketplace of the “woke” society and sold as the trendy philosophy of the intelligent. Dissent is canceled, and the alliance of the economic and political elite exerts its influence for the purpose of pressuring the mass of society toward its diabolical goal on its trip back to Babel.

The similar reality is also true in religious contexts. The spiritual grip that religious elitists hold over the laity is oftentimes bastardized to sway the masses in the name of God for the advancement of a man’s agenda. The usurpation of God’s sovereignty and the clergy’s transgression into those things that belong to God only are tactics used to scare, control and indoctrinate the masses. The goal is submission, and ultimately the complete acquiescence of the people to those controlling the narrative. This is the present evil world that we live in! It is not the friend of godliness, and for this reason, we are taught to expect persecution if we dare to live godly in Christ Jesus.

As sons/daughters of the heavenly Father, we are not to take our marching orders from the world. While we realize that this present world is evil and operated by its god, we dwell here for the sake of being the light in the midst of darkness, ambassadors of our Heavenly Head, and serve as the continual reminder to Satan and his cronies that the Lord of glory will yet reign! We are to be taught of God to think with a different mind, walk by a different rule, and labor according to a course that has the image of God’s Son as its predestined end. We, therefore, are to stand fast in those things which Jesus Christ has committed to us through our apostle, and not be moved nor shaken by the pressures of the masses. We are to hold fast in God’s will and follow the Spirit’s leading in the things which are Jesus Christ’s.

We are not to follow a multitude to do evil! We are resolved in mind to follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. We do not form our own opinions by human viewpoint. We do not order our lives by what is popular. We do not capitulate under the pressures of a thousand persecutors; rather, we stand! We do not allow the spiritual gravity of this evil world to cause us to decline after many to wrest judgment! No, brethren! We stand! We say in application with the Psalmist, Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident (Ps. 27:3). We love righteousness and hate iniquity! We speak the truth in love, but the truth we must speak!

Col. 4:6 – Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Our marching orders come from our Head, and we, his body, are at liberty to carry out His will! Let us not be controlled by the mob nor allow the evil world in which we live to dictate our thinking, living and labor! Rather let us yield ourselves unto God, allow Him to form Christ within us as we partake of His mind, His life and His working by the word of God!

The time is short, brethren! Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong (1Cor. 16:13). Do not be tossed by the winds of doctrine circulating about us! Remain fixed in your hearts upon the foundation, Jesus Christ! Set your affections on things above and continually keep your spiritual eyes set toward heaven, looking for the appearing of our great God and Savior! He is coming, beloved! Do not let down your guard! Do not forsake the eternal riches of Christ for the riches of this present world! He is faithful that promised, and His reward is exceeding great! Look up! Look out! Look forward! The Lord is at hand. Amen.
