Tasty Words

Ps. 119:103 – How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

The book of Psalms is a book of wonderful doctrine when understood in its proper prophetic context. Truly the wisdom of God set to poetic verse is the best poetry that has ever been produced, and its doctrinal design in view of its greatest use during the last days will prove it such for a host of reasons.

Among other things, I understand the five books of the Psalms to set forth and expound upon issues related to the covenant God made with David. All that is yet to be brought to pass in accordance with David’s greater Son functioning on behalf of the God’s nation to restore again the kingdom to Israel is a fascinating subject that could fill my mind and heart for the rest of my life. The Lord Jesus Christ in the pages of the Psalms is truly glorious, and it is a delight to perceive Him there as we read.

Despite the more common uses of the Psalms in daily applications, along with the general opinions held by many Christians that Psalms is a peaceful book, we actually see that it is quite the opposite. Psalms is a book of warfare in large part in which many conflicts, battles and skirmishes are prerecorded for our understanding. Nevertheless, the outcome of those wars is peace at last for Israel. The promises made unto their fathers concerning the establishment of the earthly kingdom will yet find its fulfillment as the Redeemer returns to deliver and avenge His people resulting in the restored kingdom and blessing of God. It is those that are blessed of the LORD that can rejoice in the message of the Psalms, for His end is good on their behalf.

It is in the rejoicing of those blessings that the Psalmist is able utter the words of this text: How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! While we understand the significance of these words for Israel most immediately, we too, as those that have been blessed of the Lord “with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places” can likewise confess that His words are indeed sweet to us! As we eat upon those words with our inner man, we find all His provisions to satisfy our spirits and nourish us up in the words of good doctrine. His word is effectual and uniquely designed to fit our inner man, for it is by those words that He has made us to spiritually live. His words are of power to establish, stabilize and comfort us amid all the trouble of this present evil world as we wait with anticipation for our blessed hope and His appearance for us. The deep truths of the Spirit occupy our thoughts as we mediate upon His words, and from glory to glory we are changed as we behold Him in that word which He has magnified above His own name. How sweet those words are indeed! How much sweeter than the honey of this world they truly are to those that have their spiritual senses exercised to discern and taste and see that the LORD is good!

There is nothing like the Bible! We need it more than our necessary food! I encourage you to drink of that well today! Taste of the sweetness of that spiritual honey! Have your eyes enlightened that you might know the Father’s will! All of that and more is found in His word! Give attendance to reading, today!
